Based on the memoirs of an 1830's mill girl in Lowell, Massachusetts, this story is illustrated with watercolor and pastel paintings.
Ten-year-old Rebecca Putney works as a bobbin girl at the local mill in an effort to help support her family.
When there is talk of a strike at the mill to protest low wages and dangerous working conditions, Rebecca must decide if she wants to risk her job and join the protestors.
